Why Weight Loss Doesn’t Last: A Weight-Inclusive Perspective

In honor of Weight Stigma Awareness Week

Thursday, September 17th
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Despite decades of dieting, weight loss programs, and wellness advice, the vast majority of people who lose weight regain it within a few years. Why does this happen - and what does science actually tell us about body weight? Join a weight-inclusive Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for an engaging one-hour class exploring the biological, psychological, and environmental factors that make long-term weight loss so difficult. We’ll examine how genetics, metabolism, appetite regulation, stress, weight cycling, and social determinants of health influence body weight, and why willpower is not the missing ingredient. This evidence-based presentation will also address the impact of weight stigma on physical and mental health, challenge common misconceptions about weight and health, and introduce a more compassionate, sustainable approach to well-being that focuses on health-promoting behaviors rather than the number on the scale. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the science of weight regulation, the harms of weight bias, and practical ways to support health without pursuing weight loss.
